About Michael Plastino
My name is Mike and I have been a Chartered Accountant and Licensed Public Accountant in public practice since 1984. I obtained my Bachelors of Commerce Degree from Laurentian University in 1973 and my Chartered Accountant designation in 1977. I worked for a number of years as the financial controller for a steel fabrication corporation in Northern Ontario. While I liked this kind of work, I always wanted to be my own boss and run my own business. Being a professional business advisor is what I could do. In 1984, I bought a small accounting practice and then I began to build my name as a useful advisor from there. My firm has grown over the years and I believe in personal service to meet the needs of my clients at a reasonable price. I provide services to small and medium size enterprises - proprietorships, partnerships and corporation as well as individuals. I also have provided services to a variety of non-profit and charitable organizations over the years.
In order to provide personal accounting and business services to you, I oversee and work on each and every file. I have a small, but efficient staff whom I train in my methods, after their initial post-secondary education. I see and review every business year end with each client and am proud to have served some clients for many years. The practice is varied as to type of business and industry and is mainly based in Northern Ontario. A large percentage of time is spent doing financial statement preparation from Notice to Reader to Review Engagements and the Audit level. Financial planning, budgeting, projections and forecasting have also been done as required by my clients over the years. Because Sault Ste Marie, is a border city, I do some work for non-residents who have businesses in Ontario. I also do some work for former Ontario clients who have now moved to other Canadian Provinces and Territories.
The staff numbers five and includes accounting technicians and bookkeepers. Staff provide all facets of bookkeeping and payroll services in our office. They also give telephone advice to assist bookkeepers, but they will also go on site to setup Chart of Accounts, enter year end adjusting entries, assist with bookkeeping problems or whatever the business contracts us to do. My philosophy is to make a business have bookkeeping records that are useful to the owners in order to make good business decisions. This is not necessarily the same for everyone. Staff may answer some questions regarding tax, but have been trained when it is beyond their scope and they should refer the issue to me. Privacy and confidentiality is very important to me personally and this applies to my clients files and information as well.
